MLK Day ninja-ing in #lovelansing

First off, we really hope you all are staying warm in #lovelansing right now. Wow, it’s brutal out there!

Many of the Lansing Ninjas were fortunate enough to have the day off yesterday, so we have a round-up of missions to share with you. Most happened yesterday, but one carried over into this morning. No bother, though — the spirit of MLK Day and kindness should permeate every day!

I put a box together and dropped it at a fire station with a note that read,

Hi there!

First off, thank you for the incredible service that you provide to our community. We are safer because of your vigilance, hard work and training. Thank you, thank you! Enjoy the popcorn!

This is a package for those in your care who may be stuck standing in the cold unprepared for the weather. I sincerely hope these mittens and hats warm heads, hands and hearts on what could easily be the worst day of someone’s life.

With the best of intentions,

Ninja Cal

P.S. If this is in any way an impractical idea, feel free to pay it forward in any way you see fit. #lovelansing

Ninja Cal also packaged up some Tallulah’s Folly gift certificates to leave on the windshields of volunteers at the Capital Area Humane Society:

(Yes, we are teasing Ninja Cal for leaving the “e” off of “because” … but only “becaus” we love Ninja Cal!)

And Ninja #3 had this encounter:

I did a mission this morning. I pulled into Dunkin Donuts on Saginaw and there was a guy in a truck that was pretty much held together with rope … no gloves on, hood up, and a kid standing outside. I seriously almost cried. They were looking under the hood, and I had no idea what to do. He had a flip phone so I knew help was probably coming, so I got them both hot chocolates, told them it was too cold for this, laughed and hung out with them a little, gave them a card, and told them to have a super good day. I was 10 minutes late to work and it was totally worth it. I wanted to hug the guy. He was so nice.

Several of the ninjas also distributed little MLK Day cards around town:

We saw so many Twitter and Facebook updates from people doing great things for our community yesterday. But, truth be told, we see posts like that EVERY DAY, so thanks to all of you who make #lovelansing better for everyone, every day!
