Guest blog: Barb Byrum gets all ninja on us

When we started the Lansing Ninjas project, we had lots of people contact us and ask how they could become ninjas. We loved the enthusiasm and encouraged everyone to go out and perform random acts of kindness and then share their stories with us so we could add them to the blog. Barb Byrum is the first person to take us up on the offer. Here’s her first mission. Go, Barb!

With the hope of one day becoming a real Ninja, I have been imagining ways to perform random and secret acts of kindness.

Today, I stumbled upon something that I just couldn’t resist:  a lunch bag in a nearby office refrigerator.

I have been impressed with people who set aside time during their race out the door in the morning to pack a lunch.  A few moments taken to pack a lunch for work is a few more dollars saved.

I went to YaYa’s and purchased a $10 gift certificate (enough money to cover one of my favorite YaYa’s meals), placed it in a blank card, encouraging the recipient to do something nice for someone else and found a packed lunch in a nearby refrigerator.  I placed a card on the lunch bag and walked out.

I checked back an hour later and it appears as though it was a success!  Somehow the nasty samurai did not catch wind of my actions and someone in the Lansing area will be enjoying YaYa’s in the very near future.
Nice work, Barb. OK, #lovelansing, it’s on — what will your mission be? Send ’em to us and we’ll share the stories here!
