I apologize in advance for the lack of details on this one; I have to be a bit vague to keep our cover! So you know those people who are always willing to help you out? If you’re struggling to get groceries in your car they run over to give you a hand….when you’re outside shoveling snow they show up and start helping without a word… They stay when you’re stubborn and tell them that you can do it yourself (when you really can’t)… They are the people who (willingly) help us move … and build playgrounds … and basically accomplish all sorts of things that we really couldn’t manage on our own.
They do it without us asking, and they are the first to offer us the shirt off their backs despite the fact that they are struggling themselves. I never feel like I get to properly thank them. So that’s what I decided to attempt this holiday season. And it was really wonderful when someone that I love found me out-and asked to contribute as well.
This round of holiday ninja-ing began at the grocery store. We decided that gift certificates there would be the best bet. We were very nervous about how to deliver. What if they saw us? What if someone else saw our gift and took it? We decided to trust the universe (and hide it a little, just in case). My sense of timing was way off, and it took several trips to get it just right. By the third trip I was able to delivery our holiday box, then quietly hop in the getaway car with my Samaritans none the wiser. Hopefully this allows these fantastic people to be a little more comfortable this holiday season-they deserve it.
