Ninja #1: Thankful. Very thankful.

I’m a generally thankful person … er, ninja. But this time of year, obviously, the thankfulness meter gets ratcheted up a bit.

Driving by the Sparrow Cancer Center this week, I got to thinking about — despite, or perhaps because of, the fact that I’ve lost loved ones to cancer — how thankful I am that we have such a great facility in Lansing and how grateful I am for the men and women who work there. So I thought the parking lot would be a good place for my next ninja mission.

This one was simple: A warm-and-fuzzy card with a warm-and-fuzzy note inside, telling the finder that no matter what’s happening in life, there are things to be thankful for.

I don’t know if the person who finds the card will be someone who was there to receive a chemo treatment, someone visiting a friend having treatment or someone coming in for test results. No matter what, it’s a safe bet that if someone’s at the Sparrow Cancer Center, there’s a bit of stress in his or her life right now. I hope the card gave the finder a small moment of peace and maybe a little smile on a gloomy November afternoon.

What are you thankful for today?
