Ninja #2 – Stealth on Lansing’s River Trail

On a fantastically beautiful fall day like today, it’s hard not to walk around with a smile on your face. But, when you’re about to commit a random act of kindness, it’s the kind of smile that draws unwanted attention.

So, I tried hard not to smile too big, mustering all the ninja stealth in the world to complete my mission unnoticed. Suffice it to say, I made it without getting caught. Even if I did look like Kronk on his mission in The Emperor’s New Groove. Exhilarating? Yes. Will I do it again? Yes!

As I walked away from the envelope I placed at the entry to Lansing’s River Trail in Moores Park, I saw:

  • A couple on a photography walk headed down the path hand in hand.
  • A group of teens wondering whether the Moores Park Swimming Pool was open in the summer (yes, it is!)
  • Two young boys dipping their feet in the Grand River as their father went fly-fishing.
  • A man with a camouflage backpack and a thermos full of something warm (soup, or coffee perhaps)

It’s awesome to think that someone’s day will improve because they took a little time to look around and find a little envelope stuck to the fence. And guess what, they just scored a gift card to my “happy place.” 🙂
